Grand Opening

Opening day at your own shopfront, for a new store, a relaunch or a new branch: on the homepage, a deep emerald awning striped in cream over a big brass-framed display window, your shop's name in gilt on the fascia board above it and your live prizes standing on display risers inside, each with a fresh price tag. A scarlet satin ribbon is tied in a bow across the glass with oversized gold ceremonial scissors ready beside it, tall congratulatory flower stands and bunches of balloons flank the window, confetti drifts down and a "Welcome" mat waits on the step. Enter your opening date and the theme does the rest: in the thirty days before, a sign hanging from the awning counts down — "Opening in" — under your own headline; on the day the ribbon is cut and through an opening week of your length the sign reads "Now open", counting the days left. Cream, emerald, brass and scarlet by day; after dark the shop on its opening night, the window glowing, the bulbs round the fascia lit and the awning washed in light from below. A cash drawer in emerald lacquer for the wallet, a closed door with a "Back in 404 minutes" sign for the 404, and a satin ribbon that unspools across the screen in wide folds until gold scissors snip it down the middle and the two halves fall away for the dark/light switch. Use it all year: with no date set, or once the opening week is over, the sign simply says the shop is open.
