Marigold Night

Your shop dressed for the nights of 1 and 2 November, when streets are strung with cut-paper banners, paths are laid with marigold petals and candles burn until late. Across the top of the homepage rows of cut-paper banners sway on their strings, and below them a path of petals leads to the prizes you have on offer, each standing on a plinth of paper flowers with a candle beside it; when the page opens the banners unfurl one row at a time, the path lays itself from one side to the other and the candles light along it. Before the night a row of cut-paper tags counts down to 1 November; through the week before it keeps counting, the last day dropping to hours and minutes; and on the night itself the hero says so, greets each visitor once with the theme's own moment and counts down to the last candle. The rest of the year it is simply a warm, colourful shop with no dates. Marigold orange and deep magenta on cream sugar paper, with turquoise and a lime-green cut-paper accent; a hand-cut display face for headlines and prices and a warm humanist sans for reading. Cut-paper tags for every countdown, a garland of marigolds for the winners, a tissue banner for every prize you win, "This banner lost its string" for a missing page, a petal that drops into the button when you add to the cart or bid, and a dark/light switch where one great sheet of tissue paper swings down over the page and its pattern is cut out, flower by flower, until the other mode shows through. After dark it is the night itself: deep indigo, with the candles and the marigolds glowing. The dates, the night's name and an off switch live on the theme's own admin page.
