Spring Sale

A potting bench in a little greenhouse on the first warm morning of spring: on the homepage three of your prizes stand in terracotta pots along the bench, each one tagged with an illustrated seed packet on a stake, while tulips, daffodils and a blue hyacinth come up around them, seedlings crowd a wooden tray, a galvanised watering can waits beside a ball of garden twine and dew runs down the white-framed glass behind. In the two weeks before your sale four wooden plant labels pushed into a crate count down to its start, and while it runs the crate says the sale is on and how many days are left; the dates are your own, or every year for your hemisphere: 1 March to 30 April in the north, 1 September to 31 October in the south. Fresh leaf green, terracotta and the bright inks of old seed packets by day; after dark the greenhouse at dusk, string lights along the frame, the glass holding their reflections and the plants in silhouette. A tray of seedlings runs under the header, pots stand along the shed shelf in the footer, the wallet is a seed crate with its balance stencilled on the side, three seed packets numbered 4, 0 and 4 make the 404, and for the dark/light switch seedlings sprout along the bottom of the screen and grow into a hedge, the mode changes behind the leaves and the hedge is clipped away from the top. Every other page comes from the same shed: banners and galleries behind greenhouse glass, cards and tickets as seed packets, badges as wooden plant labels, icons in little terracotta pots, a flower bed seen from above for the spin wheel, soil to scratch away on the scratch card and a small garden scene for every empty page, payment result and error. Use it all year: outside the sale it is simply a fresh, green greenhouse shop.
