Ticket Kiosk

Your shop as the ticket kiosk on the street corner, the one everybody stops at on the way home: a painted green kiosk under a striped awning, its roll-up shutter clattering open when the page loads, the awning dropping and your live prizes swinging into place on a string across the window, each one a printed ticket on a clip with its serial and its perforated stub. A felt letter board on the side spells out when the next draw is, today's numbers are pinned to the counter beside the receipt printer, and the draw itself is a hand-turned wire cage with the balls tumbling inside. Headlines in a tall condensed poster face, serials, numbers and receipts in a typewriter mono, and everything else printed on newsprint and ticket-roll cream: perforations, punch holes, rubber stamps in red and blue ink. Buying prints a ticket strip that tears off on its perforation, a winning ticket gets a scratch panel and a WINNER stamp, the wallet is a loyalty punch card, a win is a cash-in receipt, the winners are this week's tickets pinned to the board and a lost page is "Ticket 404", stamped VOID. After dark it is the kiosk at night: the shutter half down, a warm lamp inside, the street blue-black and the letter board lit. The dark/light switch prints a giant ticket over the page, stamps it with the sun or the moon and tears it away along its perforation. Evergreen: no dates to set, it is open all year.
